Lack of exercise has been correlated with ED (erectile dysfunction), and embarking on an exercise program has been shown to help ED. If you get winded just climbing a flight of stairs, that is telling you that your circulation is unable to respond to demands for increased blood flow. During sex you are exercising, your heart is beating stronger and faster, and your penis requires a huge increase of blood flow to become erect. With regular exercise, your heart and circulation is able to respond to all of these demands. You will be aware of the conditioning that occurs because activities that before made you tired and winded, will simply make you feel good. Exercise also increases NO (Nitric Oxide) production by the lining of your blood vessels. This is part of the reason that exercise reduces heart attacks, strokes, and senility because of the more vigorous movement of blood.

Exercise makes your body more sensitive to insulin. Insulin is one of the body’s natural stimulants of NO. If you are overweight, particularly if that weight is concentrated in your abdomen, you are more insulin resistant. So, exercise will allow your blood vessels to produce more NO because of the more vigorous movement of the blood, because of increased sensitivity to insulin, and because it will help you to lose weight (a “three-fer”). Wait, it’s actually a “four-fer”- exercise also decreases stress and promotes relaxation (see stress and erectile function).

No wonder everyone is emphasizing the health benefits of exercise. Exercise decreases heart attacks, strokes and senility. It makes you feel better and look better. Your bones will be stronger. As you age, you will have better joint function and you will be less likely to fall and injure yourself. So why with all of these benefits are so many people sedentary? Time and motivation are the keys. If people are watching an average of 4-5 hours of television each day (see Survival of the firmest™), and you have all of your chores and email to do, it just doesn’t leave the time you need. Be more selective by using a DVR, which your cable company can provide for a small extra fee.", and make the time for at least a 30 minute brisk walk every day. Our two books will give you a lot more hints on how to increase your activity. If you really want to improve your erectile function, motivation should not be an issue. Of all of the things we emphasize here and in our books, this may well be the most important. So, get up and move! You will quickly get to the point that your day is not complete without exercise because you will feel so much better.
